fiesta, a party!

Thanks to the Fiesta Sesame Street video, Olive now counts to 10 in spanish, says, 'fiesta! a party!' all the time (like when i was putting her to bed tonight...'fiesta! a party!' and also sings the amigo song a lot--'amigo amigo i like you' and 'one two three wiggle wiggle' since elmo (yeah yeah) adds the silly wiggle dance to the conga...it's all pretty fabulous. she's totally learning spanish. Andy will often say 'buenos dias' in the morning, so she knows that and says it back sometimes too.

She's at the age where she wants to do things by herself, or wants us to do things for her, and it's impossible to know when she's feeling what. It's amazing to see her emerge as this powerful little being. She is my baby, but then at school she puts on her own clothes, and it's just hitting me a little fast that she can do so much. I still like doing all this stuff for her. I want her to be independent, too, but lately it means I've been telling her, 'okay, what you're doing is called a tantrum. mommy doesn't hear you when you have a tantrum.' they're pretty short-lived, but they get me in the gut, like, 'oh, okay baby! whatever you want!'

On yet another example of how verbal she is, we were leaving the animal part of the museum monday, and she yells at a 10-year-old-ish boy and his mom, "bye kids!"

She also will tell me what she's done in a day--pretty amazing. Especially after one day recently when she said, "Daddy, bike ride, dinosaur in trees, bicycle helmet" (clearly, they went to see the dinosaur in the trees - it's big over near the museum). And, again, she loves counting to 10 in spanish. She likes to speed it up half-way through and use this really high pitched silly voice. She also likes to use low, slow voices to be funny. Like she'll say, "quaaaat-rooooo' for four, with a deep voice (like the puppet does it).

She's putting clothes on her dolls, and last night, made sure they were in bed, turned over so she could rub their backs and put blankets on them. She could say all these things, and would narrate as she went.

She also says 'gen' for again, and wants to hear songs over and over again, especially when they're sung by children (like on one cd, where there's a song that says 'where is mary? i don't know' then 'donde es maria? yo no se'. I could be butchering the spanish spelling...

Time to go clean up some, family life is messier than couples life!
