another glimpse at her adult look.
andy was thinking it looked like how she'll look as a grad student, when an undergrad comes to ask her a question.
cousins in 'pose'
man oh man. told em both to smile and i got all this fabulous cheese-face. this one's a keeper.
no, only mine, amigos.
wow. 'no, only mine' seems to be a popular phrase lately, like 'no, only mine mommy' if someone gets near me (aka, another toddler) or 'only mine hummus' when i try to dip my cracker. huh. i also love that all the raspberries (on the bush andy and i planted!!!) are 'only mine ras-berries'.
otherwise, o has always done this incredibly gentle stroking with her hand on my face and hair, and lately it's partnered with such a look of understanding, and straight up 'i love you mommy-o' without prompting.
she's learned that you can make a video on andy's camera, so she will say one word, then want to see it/watch it. here's one where she says "amigos" (totally unprompted, that is what she wanted to say!) then says "turn around, turn around" as in, let's watch cute little me.
her sentences are outrageous, now, too. that plus whenever she sees something really cool, she goes, "WHOA!!!!!!!" which means andy and i must do that a lot, too. i love her enthusiasm.
we went to the pool today, swam, took a break to eat a peach and fig newmans (where she took a bite out of each one then put them back in the container) and then sang twinkle twinkle little star-- she did: 'twinkle twinkle little staaaa owiwondahwhachuarrr, up-a-ba-da-wa-so-hiiiiigh, like a dimon in da skyyyyyyy, twinkle twinkle little staaaaa, owiwondahwhachuarrrrrr'. then we got back in the pool and she was 'swimming' and 'float' and 'kick kick kick!' a lot.
today at the pool, out of nowhere she said, 'i've got peace like a river in my soul. in my soul.' she said the second 'soul' lower and slower, like how andy sings it with me. it was awesome. also, often, when i start singing peace like a river, she stops me and says, 'love like the ocean'. she likes that verse better, i guess.
here's probably the video that made her say amigos:
we made up actions to go with the grandaddy song 'nature anthem', and she's starting to do it, making her fingers 'walk up one side of the mountain' and 'walk down the other side of the mountain' and when we get to the part of 'try to be nice to everyone' she does the sign for love.
while she was in the bath tonight i snuck and gave her a haircut (her bangs were hitting her right in the eyes) and i accidentally cut some pretty short, so then i went ahead and cut a bunch of them short. it's cute! uneven, and cute. she's going to look cute even if i shaved her head. (i'm not going to)
andy and i decided that our genes are having a battle on her head, with my straight hair claiming the top, his curly hair claiming the sides and lower back, and the middle back of her head is just a crazy, vicious dance party. i can't keep a dreadlock from forming, even with brushing and using tangle-free spray. here's a photo of her new haircut.
and here she is mad at me that i won't give her the camera while she's in the bath:
and once i gave her the camera (peace is restored):

fiesta, a party!
Thanks to the Fiesta Sesame Street video, Olive now counts to 10 in spanish, says, 'fiesta! a party!' all the time (like when i was putting her to bed tonight...'fiesta! a party!' and also sings the amigo song a lot--'amigo amigo i like you' and 'one two three wiggle wiggle' since elmo (yeah yeah) adds the silly wiggle dance to the conga...it's all pretty fabulous. she's totally learning spanish. Andy will often say 'buenos dias' in the morning, so she knows that and says it back sometimes too.
She's at the age where she wants to do things by herself, or wants us to do things for her, and it's impossible to know when she's feeling what. It's amazing to see her emerge as this powerful little being. She is my baby, but then at school she puts on her own clothes, and it's just hitting me a little fast that she can do so much. I still like doing all this stuff for her. I want her to be independent, too, but lately it means I've been telling her, 'okay, what you're doing is called a tantrum. mommy doesn't hear you when you have a tantrum.' they're pretty short-lived, but they get me in the gut, like, 'oh, okay baby! whatever you want!'
On yet another example of how verbal she is, we were leaving the animal part of the museum monday, and she yells at a 10-year-old-ish boy and his mom, "bye kids!"
She also will tell me what she's done in a day--pretty amazing. Especially after one day recently when she said, "Daddy, bike ride, dinosaur in trees, bicycle helmet" (clearly, they went to see the dinosaur in the trees - it's big over near the museum). And, again, she loves counting to 10 in spanish. She likes to speed it up half-way through and use this really high pitched silly voice. She also likes to use low, slow voices to be funny. Like she'll say, "quaaaat-rooooo' for four, with a deep voice (like the puppet does it).
She's putting clothes on her dolls, and last night, made sure they were in bed, turned over so she could rub their backs and put blankets on them. She could say all these things, and would narrate as she went.
She also says 'gen' for again, and wants to hear songs over and over again, especially when they're sung by children (like on one cd, where there's a song that says 'where is mary? i don't know' then 'donde es maria? yo no se'. I could be butchering the spanish spelling...
Time to go clean up some, family life is messier than couples life!
