today, we came home from the art walk, i was carrying olive, and it was rainy and muddy and olive wanted to play in it, so she said, "i get down".
it took me a minute to realize that her first sentence is really truly, "i get down". wow.
she loves wearing headbands now, too-calls them hed-ban.
we sing a lot of songs, so i asked her if she wanted to write her own song, so she sings 'straaaaa-berry' whenever asked if she wants to sing. she also sings, 'eieio' and will sing every word at the end of EVERY line of miss mary mack (mack, black, buttons, back, high, sky) and when i get 'and she never came back' olive will sing 'no no no' then ju-ey (july).
she also read the book of colors from the museum (so a jasper johns painting is 'grey'. etc) and she said all of the colors. i didn't expect her to know all of them, but she was really on it.
she's also been reading more and more letters-- the exit sign at piedmont she kept pointing to saying "E!" "I!" when we got in the bath tonight, i lined up AEIOU and she knew them all except U, so now she's saying U (ye-ew!).
i was reading a book to her that grandma and grandaddy burch gave us about the day she was born. the last page is a mama with a white blanketed baby in her arms (pretty abstract) with people dancing around them both. olive pointed to the mama and baby, then curled up in my lap to imitate the picture. it was really beautiful.
olive also started singing 'merrily merrily merrily' recently-- she must sing that at school-- and she does something else that we don't know: 'monday, tuesday, bop!' and claps her hands on bop! she'll say 'monday....bop!' then 'monday....tuesday....bop!' it's so wild.
she also uses everything to call her friends and mommy and daddy, a block, a cord, a pen, anything. she'll say 'helllloooo? hi wiwee!' she does something similar when she's looking for an animal in a book then immediately finds it: 'turtle? turtle!'
we also got out the baby signs for feelings book tonight, and i didn't realize she knew ANY of them. i just asked 'what's that baby feeling?' and she knew sad, happy, hurt, shy, sick (she mimicked that one) and another i can't remember, but andy and i were blown away. we don't even look at that book that often.
she is the most beautiful little girl! she's getting better at creating sounds that are more difficult for a mama to hear (aka, screaming). she also just uses her words so much. i'll give her choices like 'do you want the whole piece or little bites?' and the answer is 'liddle bice' we also drive past a lot of trees and she says 'old tree old tree old tree' cause we had a conversation about how big trees are older trees. we like to touch their rough bark, and give the little acorns back to them (as in stick them into the bark).
she also is turning into a flirt and does an outrageous smile when asked if you can see her teeth. i think she actually said 'hiya baby' to the waiter at piedmont.
